If
you have never used FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to transfer files
before
here is just a quick overview on how to do it here using Internet
Explorer.
Start
by clicking on the hostname link to the FTP server. When you
are prompted with a login dialoge box, use the username rfv
and the password upload. Once you are logged
in you will see a window very similar to Windows
Explorer.
The
window
not only looks like Windows Explorer,
it acts very much like it too. You can simply just select the file
on your computer that you want to upload to the FTP server, then
click and drag it into the FTP server window, and finally release
the mouse button in the FTP server window. When you do this you
will start the process of uploading your file to the FTP server.
After a minute or so a dialoge box should appear showing you the
approximate time left that it will take to upload the current file.
Depending on the size of the file and your internet connection
speed, it could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
When
uploading files anywhere on the internet, it is always best if
they are compressed with software such as WinZIP or WinRAR.
By compressing the files it not only saves you time uploading by
reducing the size of the file, it also puts the file in a better "web
safe" format for traveling across the internet.
